Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant

Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Controller / VP of Finance

Location: Warren, Michigan

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team. The Staff Accountant will assist with daily accounting operations, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger maintenance. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and comfortable working independently while collaborating across departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and process customer invoices accurately and timely
  • Verify supporting documentation, rates, purchase orders, load information, and billing details prior to invoicing
  • Maintain organized billing records and electronic documentation
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies or customer questions
  • Work closely with operations, dispatch, and customer service teams to ensure billing accuracy
  • Monitor customer portals and upload invoices and supporting documents as required
  • Assist with accounts receivable collections and payment application
  • Reconcile billing reports and identify missing or incomplete documentation
  • Maintain customer billing files, contracts, and rate confirmations
  • Assist with month-end billing close procedures
  • Generate reports related to invoicing, billing status, and outstanding balances
  • Ensure compliance with company billing procedures and customer requirements
  • Support additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
