Transmission Modeling Co-op (Hybrid)
PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure future electric.
Department Responsibilities:
Transmission Modeling Department produces the load flow and short circuit models that support PJM's RTEP and Interconnection analysis. Last year the models produced by the department helped identify the need for over $10 billion in future transmission projects. It also produces models for the eastern interconnection wide Multi-region Modeling Working Group (MMWG) required for NERC compliance. The department also supports markets via market efficiency models, and operations by producing near term models.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist engineers in all facets of producing and maintaining load flow and short circuit models of the future transmission system including:
• Updating model change files
• Correct contingency files
• Setting final load, generation, and interchange
• Participate in industry stakeholder working groups
• Aid in NERC compliance efforts
• Help make automation tools to reduce future work and increase consistency
Required Skills:
• Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Be self-motivated, a quick learner, resourceful
• Possess strong customer service skills
• Be detail oriented
• Able to work both individually and with a team
Preferred Skills:
• Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
• Programming experience, especially Python
• Database experience
• Interest and coursework in Power Systems
• Experience in load flow software such as PSSe and Tara

All PJM Interconnection co-op positions are contracted for 40 hours per week. If you are not able to make this time commitment please do not apply.
